Nikki Haley’s Fundraising Soars Despite Trump’s Opposition

Nikki Haley may be running a long-shot presidential campaign, but her donors aren’t giving up on her. Most of them would do anything to prevent a Trump victory.

When it comes to successful campaign fundraising, Nikki Haley has done quite well for herself, racking up big-name donors with deep pockets.

Many of her faithful donors are hoping to help her coast through the primaries and come out ahead of former president Donald Trump.

Haley may be trailing behind Trump in the polls, but she isn’t ready to throw in the towel.

Now that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has bowed out, Haley is the only remaining challenger facing Trump in the race for the Republican nomination.

As it stands, Haley is a long-shot candidate whose odds of securing her party’s nomination are low.

But she and her wealthy donors hope to keep her campaign running long enough to get through the primaries so that voters can make the decision for themselves.

Meanwhile, Trump has made his displeasure with Haley’s donors clear, going so far as to say that anyone who donated to the former South Carolina governor’s campaign would be “permanently barred” from his MAGA camp.

His attempts to threaten Haley’s supporters have not scared them off, with some suggesting that Trump’s attitude toward his opponent’s base has only reinforced why they support Haley over Trump.

Nikki Haley: The Great Alternative?

Nikki Haley has been making an extreme effort to position herself as the solution for rewriting history for voters who are not interested in a repeat of the 2020 election.

Her goal at the moment is to keep her campaign afloat until Super Tuesday, which falls on March 5th this year.

On Super Tuesday, over one-third of the delegates available for GOP candidates will be within reach. It’s a make-or-break day in the election cycle.

Depending on the results of the primaries held in 16 states and territories that day, there’s a good chance that the nominees for both parties will be virtually locked in.

Haley has leaned into Trump’s threats against her supporters. Earlier this month, she raised half a million dollars selling T-shirts to her base that said “Banned Permanently,” a reference to the ultimatum from her opponent.

While Haley essentially presents herself as the answer for voters who are tired of both Biden and Trump, neither the president nor the former president has bothered spending too much energy fighting her on the campaign trail.

As the two leading candidates consider themselves shoe-ins for their respective parties’ nominations, they’ve mostly dismissed Haley, assuming she would either drop out or run out of money before she could become a threat.

But she has continued to amass donations from huge sources who all have the same agenda: preventing Donald Trump from taking the nomination.

Now, she’s tasked with putting that money to use, convincing voters that she is the right choice.

The more Donald Trump has used his platforms to denigrate Haley, the more noticeable she’s gotten – which has only bolstered her polling numbers.

Whether Trump realizes the effect his attention has on her campaign is unclear.

Haley’s talent for fundraising has gotten her farther than most voters anticipated, but whether she can persuade people in battleground states to cast their ballots in her favor is a different beast altogether.

Her donors have gotten her this far, but she’ll need more than money to best Trump on Super Tuesday.

If she manages to secure the delegates she needs to win the Republican nomination against the odds, some polls suggest that she could beat Biden in November.

A Look at the Numbers

The 2023 fourth quarter campaign finance reports showed that President Biden raised almost a hundred million dollars in the last three months of the year.

Haley’s camp raised $24 million, coming out on top of Trump, whose team reported $19 million raised.

Of course, these numbers don’t tell the whole story of their respective campaigns.

There is still a fight ahead for all three candidates. But historically, campaign finances are usually a good predictor of elections.

More Money, More Votes

In most elections, whichever candidate is able to raise (and subsequently spend) the highest amount of money ultimately wins the race.

This tracks in presidential elections as well as smaller races, like the ones for congressional seats.

From Donors to Voters

Haley’s donors stand poised to continue bucking Trump however they can, so it’s likely that she’ll continue on her current financial trajectory.

From there, it’ll be up to Republican voters to decide whether she’s the better choice to take on President Biden in the general election.
